The
theory of Multiple intelligence was first introduced by Harvard psychologist
Howard Gardner in 1983. He was the first psychologist based on child’s IQ
testing. The theory that he introduced play an important
role for the assessment of students in the classroom. The intelligences are
tools for learning and are cross-cultural in nature in that all people possess different
degrees intelligence. It is very important for a teacher to know how to use the
theories of multiple intelligence in the classroom. It is noteworthy that
teachers should be trained to teach their lessons in various ways of teaching
techniques so as to understand all individuals during the class. There are many
techniques such as music, cooperative and dance ect that can be used as a tools
for the different individuals in the class. However, it can be seen that there
are many schools by teaching tradition methods, especially in our country.
Therefore, it should be reformed using good techniques and better ways of
teaching mothers for every individual.
There are eight types of multiple intelligence
which should be used in the classroom in order the students to understand well.
It is needless to say that it is better way of teaching methods for different
students. One way a teacher should know is that he should try to know different
students’ learning styles. By knowing
these students are less capacity of doing in a particular subject while other
can do it well. The teacher, of course, can easily overcome the problems facing
during the classroom. One of the very significant example states that “if a
child is not learning the way you are teaching, then you must teach in the way
the child learns”. ( Rita Dumnn, from Anne Bruetshs’ Multiple Intelligence
Lesson Plan Book)
Therefore, above quotation mentions that the teacher
needs to know various types of learning style in order to teach the students in
the class probably.
According to Dr, Richard week 4 PowerPoint, It
states that people learn more deeply form words and pictures than from words
alone and he mentions that there are three assumption of the multimedia
principles:
1.
They are: there are two separate
channels ( auditory and visual for processing information ( sometimes referred
to as Dual –Coding theory);
2.
Each channel has a limited ( finite)
capacity:
Learning is an active process if
filtering, selecting, and organizing and integrating information based upon
prior knowledge. ( Dr.Richard week 4 PowerPoint, pp 4)
According to Howard Gardner, there are eight kinds
of multiple intelligences that should be known by every one of teacher. They
are:
·
Verbal –linguistic skills
·
Logical-mathematical skills
·
Bodily –kinesthetic skills
·
Visual-spatial skills
·
Interpersonal abilities
·
Intrapersonal abilities
·
Musical abilities
·
Naturalistic abilities ( Woolfolk,anita.PP
133)
In
conclusion, the theories of multiple intelligences provide eight methods for the
teacher to facilitate the students a positive learning outcome. All these
mentioned above are the ways to approach better teaching individual to
individual .
